Game Releases – Rest of 2017

Update (22.10.2017 19:04): added info to the .hack//G.U. Last Recode entry that I was reminded of by a comment.

As the year is coming close to its end, we approach the holiday season, meaning there are still some game releases left to come. Here are some entries that could be interesting.

Super Mario Odyssey

This one has quite a bit of hype behind it, and there’s only a few days left until release (27th of October)

Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus

The previous entry with its expansion was well received, so there’s a lot of people looking forward to this one, releases on the 27th of October as well

Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back

Yeah, I know, all the hype, right? This one came pretty much out of nowhere, as no one really asked for this. The interesting part comes into play due to the fact that Black Forest Games are developing the title, their previous platformer outing with Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams was rather competent. So, this one may actually turn out decent (which is far more than one would expect after those SNES titles… and the less said about the 3D one, the better). We’ll see on the 31st of October, I guess.

Call of Duty: WWII

While I don’t care about this at all, the series has a rather large customer base. I hope the download servers are prepped for the 3rd of November.

.hack//G.U. Last Recode

A remaster of the Playstation 2 series of games compiled into one release. If it turns out decent, I’ll likely check it out, come the 3rd of November, just 2 days after its release in Japan. I like that (almost) simultaneous releases worldwide are becoming more of a thing with games from there. Update: The remaster also includes a new fourth Volume, which means additional content that was not released before (thanks buttonpresserblog for reminding me).

Sonic Forces

Recently Sonic Mania managed to do rather well, let’s see if Forces manages to do decently for a 3D Sonic title. Releases on the 7th of November.

Doom

Not a completely new release, but the 2016 title is getting a port to the Nintendo Switch on the 10th of November, which kind of makes this worth a mention.

Demon Gaze 2

A sequel to the PS Vita dungeon crawler, this time on both the Vita and the PS4. This genre needs more love. Should be out on the 14th of November.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2

Looking for a massive RPG to sink your teeth in with the ability to play handheld as well? This should scratch that itch December 1st.

Spellforce 3

Looking forward to this one with a dose of scepticism. The previous two titles where a great mix of RPG and RTS, it remains to be seen if this one manages to follow up on them. We’ll see on December the 7th, fingers crossed.

There are of course several other titles releasing over the rest of the year, so if you have some that you look forward to, but aren’t on the list, write them down in the comments.

  1. I’d like to add that “.hack//G.U. Last Recode” isn’t just your run-of-the-mill HD remaster, as it contains a whole new episode never before released. So while already containing 3 whole PS2 games, it adds a fourth one on top !
